Clinical Cases:
Definition: Diseased condition resulted from ingestion of Contaminated food with Aflatoxin.
Characterized by:
- High mortality rate
- Retardation in growth
Cause:
- Aflatoxins: Potent chemical metabolites produced by certain toxogenic fungi (Aspergillus Flavus – Aspergillus parasiticus) under certain conditions include:
- Moisture content 14% or more in feed
- Temperature ranged from 20-30
- High relative humidity
- Bad storage condition
- Aflatoxins have four types (B1 – B2 – G1 – G2) B1 is the most toxigenic and carcinogenicز
Signs: Depend on (Dose – Species – Age – Duration of exposure )
Signs of Acute form:
- High mortality
- Retardation of growth
- Diarrhea containing undigested feed particles
- Paleness in comb and wattles
- Decrease egg production
- Decrease fertility and hatchability
- Nervous manifestation include (Ataxia – Staggering gait – Opisotinous – Paralysis – Death with retracted head)
Signs of Chronic form:
- Retardation of growth
- Severe anemia
- Distended abdomen (Ascites)
- Diarrhea
- Low mortality
- Prolonged course
Control:
- No actual treatment of toxicated bird
- Supported treatment is essential procedure for control of Aflatoxicosis to increase vitality affected bird and reduce severity of lesions and this carried out by:
- Supply massive dose of Multivitamins (Vit. E – Vit. K – Vit. A – Selenium)
- Minerals as Calcium and Phosphorus to reduce fragility of bones
- Diuritics as Potassium Citrate to reduce renal dysfunction
- Liver stimulant as Heparenol to activate liver function
- Lipotrophic agent to mobilize and remove fat from liver in case of fatty liver
- Some antibiotics to reduce and suppress 2rd infection complications
