Clinical Cases:
Definition: Diverse group of diseases Characterized by Deposition of insoluble,inert extracellular protein fibrils (Amyloid).There are 15 chemical types of amyloid.
Cause: Amyloid fibrils formed when there are an accumulation of an amyloidogenic protein.Some Normal protein have the ability to form amyloid fibrils if present in high concentration or if genetic mutation occur.
Amyloid-related Diseases:
- Diabetes mellitus
- Alzheimer – like Pathology in the Brains of Aging Cats
- Prion Diseases
- Immunoglobulin Light – Chain Associated Amyloidosis
- Reactive Amyloidosis (AA – amyloid)
Diagnosis:
- Histopathology: by examination of biopsy taken from infected organ stained by Congo red.
- Clinical Signs: When The cat have live amylodosis This mean elevations in liver enzymes which lead to recurrent bouts of lethargy associated with acute onset anemia.
- Radiographs: Show abnormal enlargement of liver.
- Ultrasound
Treatment:
- Treatment of Amyloidosis related diseases
- Vitamin K Therapy
- Supportive Therapy
