Anal Sac Disease in Cats .. Signs,Diagnosis and Treatment

Anal sac disease 1

Definition: A disease of Cats characterized by licking at the perineal region and draining tract.

Anal sac: A sacs located laterally to the anus between the internal and external sphincter of the anus and contain anal glands.

Signs and symptoms:

  • Tenesmus
  • Licking of the perineal region
  • Draining tract

Diagnosis: By appearance of clinical signs which mentioned before.

Treatment:

  • Manual Expression: In anesthesized condition (Can use sedative also) Removal of thick ended secretion by squeezing
  • Administration of  antiseptic solution such as dilute chlorhexidine
  • Antibiotic administration
