Anorexia in Cats .. Cause,Signs and Treatment

Clinical Cases:

Emaciated Cat

Definition: Reduction or loss of the animal appetite for food.

Cause:

  • Pathological Cause as: Metabolism,Gastro intestinal,Neurologic¬† Disorders
  • Non Pathological Cause as: Environmental stress

Signs and Symptoms:

  • Ptyalism (Excessive secretion in saliva)
  • Vomiting
  • Ataxia
  • Tremors
  • Anemia
  • Dermatitis
  • Weakness

Diagnosis:

  • Take the history of the case by asking the owner about the Cat environment,Recent drug therapy …etc
  • Apply of Physical examination (Examine for wounds,abscesses or ulcers – Organs size – Auscultation sounds)
  • Complete blood count
  • Urinalysis
  • Thoracic Radiography

Treatment:

  • Fluid support
  • Nutritional support
  • Nausea support
  • Appetite stimulant as Mirtazapine
