Psitticosis

Avian Chlamydiosis : Acute or Chronic infectious disease of certain poultry,many cage,wild and migratory birds .

It`s also called Psittacosis or Parrot fever

Cause : Chlamydia psittaci

Clinical Signs :

  • Difficulty Breath
  • Discharge from eyes
  • Decrease in appetite
  • Weight loss
  • Weakness
  • Diarrhea

Susceptibility :

  • Domestic birds
  • Wild birds
  • Rare in Chickens
  • Affected all ages but young is more suscept to infection .

Mode of Infection :

  • Inhalation (infected dust and droplets )
  • Ingestion (food contaminated with infected droplets )
  • Carrier birds
  • Skin ( By ticks and mites )

The disease Can transmitted to Man ( Zoonotic disease )

Control :

Depend mainly on treatment By tetracyclins or oxytetracyclins for long period (15-45 days )
