Demodectic Mange : Is an immune disease detected in skin of Dogs, generally happen in young Dogs.

Causes : Mite called ( Demodex canis or Demodex injai )

Habitat : Skin of dogs
Skin and Eyelid of human

What is the severity of the disease ?

Demodectic Mange only Cause harm to dog if the Immune system of the dog was poor So it happen in young dogs

Life Cycle :

Demodectic Mange Spends it`s Entire life on the dog

Eggs are laid by a pregnant bitch —> mature from —-> Larvae —> Numphs —> Adults
The lifecycle take 20 – 35 Days

How can Demodectic Mange Transmitted ?

The mites directly transferred from the mother to her puppies During the first week of the life.
In general transmission of the mite is by contact only.

What`s the signs of Demodectic Mange ?

Demodectic Mange signs includes hair loss, red skin, crust ( The mites prefer to Live in the hair follicles )
The hair loss begins to Appear Around Eyes, muzzle and other areas of the head.
The lesions may be associated with itch

What is the treatment of Demodectic Mange ?

Its necessary to use lotions, dips, and shampoos.

  • 1% rotenone ointment
  • 5% benzoyl peroxide gel applied daily
  • Feeding a high quality diet and a multivitamin with a fatty acid may also help some dogs
  • Amitraz dips applied every two weeks
