Clinical Cases :

botulism

Definition: One of the Clostridial Diseases caused by ingestion of spoiled food or decayed food Containing performed toxins of Clostridial Botulinum Type A,C.

Cause: Food poisoning

Predisposing factors : Micro Organism prefer ( High protein ration – An aerobic condition – Alkaline media )

Clinical signs :

  • Intermittent, Progressive and Flaccid paralysis of legs, wings and Neck
  • Bird unable to walk
  • Wing dropping ( rest on ground )
  • Bird unable to left neck and head So called limber neck
  • Partial paralysis of eye lid
  • Recumbent bird : Close it`s eyes and appear as in deep coma
  • Paralysis of intercostals and Abdomenal muscles –> Gasping
  • Feather is loose and easily Pulled
  • Diarrhea
  • Depression
  • Weakness

Incubation period: Few hours to 1 or 3 Days after eating of poisoned food.

Treatment: In mild cases only by giving purgatives as MgSo4.

Control: Avoid feeding on spoiled food.
