Definition: Fungal infection affect Skin of horse which can affected other animals and human also.

Cause: Dermatophyte fungi (Trichophyton and Microsporum species)

Mode of Infection:

  • By contact of the horse with other infected horse
  • Tacks

Signs and Symptoms:

  • Ring like skin lesion (Alopecia)
  • Hair loss from the infected area

Diagnosis:

  • Skin scrapping technique: Scrap the skin on a microscopal slide then examine under Microscope –> Ringworm spores
  • The shape of the skin lesion (Circular ring shape)

Treatment:

  • May be Self cure without treating (Take 6-15 weeks)
  • Wash the infected are with anti-fungal solution (Remove the skin debris before application)
